Alvin
Originally, though unofficially, Alvin
was known as Morgan, Texas. The name was later changed and named after Alvin Morgan who encouraged settlement here.
The cattle and agricultural industries were a major contribution to the growth of this small town.

One of Alvin's "claim to fame" is that it is the home of Nolan Ryan, who
was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999. Lynn Nolan Ryan's career included playing for the New York
Mets, the California Angels, the Houston Astros, and the Texas Rangers. You can find out more about Nolan Ryan by
visiting his foundation website. |

One of my favorite reasons for visiting Alvin is the Alvin Opry. Talk about down-home friendly. This is
a great place where you can take the whole family. If you ever find yourself driving through the town of Alvin,
on the way to somewhere else, make it a point to spend the night and go to the Alvin Opry! You won't regret it.
