Alamo

Originally called "Agostadero de Alamo" or Pasture of the Cottonwood Trees. It wasn't until 1924 that it was incorporated and named Alamo for The Alamo Sugar Company. This city is a favorite winter resort and retirement area.
Alamo Oranges
Alamo began as a farming community. Citrus is a major crop, along with onions, peppers and cotton. The rich fertile soil of the Rio Grande Valley provides an excellent environment for growing just about anything!

The common sunflower grows wild all over south Texas and Alamo is no exception. With the diverse varieties of natural vegetation this area is the perfect habitat for many local and migrating birds.
